Album Zines

Personal projects in design are often creating fake projects for yourself to complete, and one thing that a lot of designers tend to do is recreate their favourite album covers. While this is a ‘favourite albums’ project, I wanted to create something a little more fulfilling. I also wanted something I could physically make and enjoy alongside listening to albums I already consider to be perfect.

After thinking over what would enhance the listening experience, I decided on making lyric book zines. This gave me the opportunity to look in-depth at the lyrics, meanings, and behind the scenes production of each song. Diving deep into this helped so much and designing something to accompany each album felt a lot more informed with this research.

Each page looks and feels just like my interpretation of the track it is designed to support. Every spread gives information on a song's contributors, a full lyric transcript, and includes supporting images taken during the production and performance of the music.

While this project was more of a self indulgence into my own music taste, I think it turned out to be a success. If any measurement could validate that, it’s that each of these zines now live inside the dust protector of their corresponding vinyl in my collection.
